'Oh Hallie & the Big Blue Sky' Album Review by Patrick Roberts

"The latest release by Midwest singer/songwriter, Landon Keller, “Oh Hallie & the Big Blue Sky” is a masterpiece and stunning addition to an already impressive catalog of songs by one of the best modern performers around. Keller flows seamlessly from blues to soul while touching on Americana and folk all the way through. Abandoning the big band sound Keller can sometimes be known for from his powerful live performances, he has stripped down his songs to the core – leaving only the essence of his unique and lovely sound.

His track, “The Garden” is easily one of my favorite songs of the past 5 years – not just by local or independent artists either. It is packed with soul and heart and the simple, well placed plucks on the guitar really allows his smoky and smooth voice to shine on this track.

Leaving behind the band for this record may have been one of the best decisions Keller could have made for this release. Live performances with the band are amazing and the talent Keller has assembled for those shows is nothing short of impressive but in this element, we really get to peer inside the inner workings of a songwriter coming to terms with his place in the Midwest while falling in love with his young family.

“Oh Hallie & the Big Blue Sky” should be counted among the best collections of songs to come out of this region of the United States. Keller is on point with capturing the life and emotions of people in the landlocked states. I imagine one day professors of songwriting will bring this album to class for young students to review and learn from – or at least they should".

Morel Festival Review

Next up was Landon Keller. There is a lot to be said for this performer whose style and talent approach those of alternative folk greats like Amos Lee and Ray LaMontagne. Keller’s vocal tones are smooth and bold then move to a slight growl when the spirit of the song calls for it. The beginning of Keller’s set included a gorgeous rendition of Ray LaMontagne’s “Jolene.” It takes a true artist to capture all the gut-wrenching passion of this song, and Keller delivered every bit of it.

'Oh Hallie & The Big Blue Sky'

I am stoked to share with you my first official release since, "Curiosity" in 2007. I am very proud of "Oh Hallie & The Big Blue Sky", (The Prospect Sessions) I think a lot of people are really going to dig this album.

I recorded this album this past mid October, with plans to release it for $8. Then, when a family in my community's child Mason (#MEGASTRONG) was diagnosed with leukemia I felt compelled to help out, and you can too!

The CD has 13 songs and will still sell for $8 (62 cents a song), but I will be donating $3 from each full album sale before May 1 to the Denton's (#MEGASTRONG).
